The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll traveled in style.
Elvis was well-known for living a lavish lifestyle, from the digs at his Memphis compound Graceland to his private jet named after his daughter Lisa Marie. The latter went up for auction earlier this month at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles. The plane was previously installed as an exhibit at Graceland.
Elvis bought the Lisa Marie, a Convair 880 from Delta Airlines, in 1975 for $250,000 – a hefty sum in those days. The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll added several personal touches to the aircraft. After the embellishments were complete, the bill added up to $600,000.
Some of those touches include a master bedroom with private bathroom that includes a gold faucet and gold sink, a conference room, an entertainment system that was considered top of the line in the 70’s, with TVs and a high-quality speaker system. The most personal touch on the plane is the “TCB” painted on the tailgate, short for “Taking Care of Business”.
