Dwight Yoakam is teaming up with comedian and rock musician Jack Black to co-produce a new sitcom for Fox.
The 30-minute comedy series, named Belles & Whistles, will be centered around a successful businessman from Silicon Valley who moves his family to Nashville, Tenn. in order to pursue his dreams of becoming a country music star. The series will reportedly incorporate musical elements within each episode, much like ABC’s successful drama Nashville.
It’s unclear if Yoakam or Black will contribute any on-screen time to the series. Since his breakthrough acting role in the Academy Award winning motion picture Sling Blade in 1966, Yoakam has starred in many acclaimed films over the years. This new partnership with Black, who’s known for his mixture of biting humor and rock music, will likely supply a highly entertaining show. In a time when many family friendly sitcoms are struggling to stay on air, let’s hope this one will beat the odds and nab a primetime slot on the network.
An air date for the series has not been announced. Yoakam released his 14th studio album, Second Hand Heart, in April. He’s currently scheduled to tour across the country through March of 2016. A full list of tour dates is posted at his official website.
