The Robertson family, stars of A&E’s Duck Dynasty, announced this week that this season will be the show’s last. The hit show has followed the rural Louisiana family and their successful duck call business since 2012.
“After five years, we’ve decided as a family for this to be the final chapter of the Duck Dynasty series,” Jase Robertson (alongside 20 of his family members), explained to viewers. The cancellation could be due to dwindling ratings. While the show was once garnering over 10 million viewers per episode, USA Today reports that these numbers eventually weakened.
The family took to social media to express their gratitude to the network and fans. “I just want to say thank you to all the fans for your commitment & support in watching our silly crazy fun family!,” Jessica Robertson shared on Twitter.
“It’s been an amazing ride. Thank y’all for the incredible journey,” Sadie also tweeted.
The Robertsons have truly become an international phenomenon since the show’s premiere just a few years ago. After all, 11 seasons is pretty impressive and although the “Duck Dynasty” era is coming to an end, fans still have one season left. Furthermore, the family hinted at appearances on future television specials. So, like it or not — you probably haven’t seen the last of the Robertson family.
New episodes will run through January, then resume in March. The 2017 finale is scheduled for April 12. Episodes air on Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. Central on A&E.
