Drunk Cowboy Hops on Horse to Avoid DWI

A Louisiana man recently traded in his keys for four hooves after drinking a few too many daiquiris.

According to WBRZ, Jake Williams was stopped by police while riding his horse, Sugar, alongside the highway in the small town of Watson. Williams told police he had driven his truck and horse trailer to a nearby daiquiri shop earlier that day. When he found himself too intoxicated to drive home, he decided to saddle up instead, literally.

An onlooker saw Williams hop on his horse after leaving the bar and called police, who pulled the intoxicated Williams over. Although each state has different DWI laws, it’s not illegal to ride horseback while intoxicated in Louisiana. Instead, police simply cited Williams for public intoxication and advised him to get a ride home from a family member.

“When you get a little too much to drink, why not ride a horse?” Williams told WBRZ. “It’s safer that way. The horse knows the way home.”
