Singer-songwriter Don McLean is facing six additional charges relating to his arrest over a domestic violence incident in January.
According to People, the 70-year-old has been charged with criminal threatening, terrorizing, criminal restraint, obstruction and criminal mischief. He has plead not guilty to all counts, including the original domestic violence charge.
On Jan. 18., McLean was detained by police at his Camden, Maine home after responding to a domestic violence call from his wife, Patrisha. The “American Pie” singer was released from jail on $10,000 bail a few hours after his arrest. According to court documents, Patrisha stated that her husband had “pressed the palms of his hands against my temples and squeezed as though my head were in a vice,” which has caused her severe headaches since the incident. She also alleged that McLean has a “violent temper” and previously threatened to kill her.
Although Patrisha McLean initially submitted a temporary order of protection from her husband, the request was later dropped. In a statement, the couple stated that “neither party is seeking a divorce,” and that they planned to “move forward and rebuild their lives.”
“Don is not a monster,” Patrisha McLean explained. “This is a very sad time for me and for him.”
Don McLean is scheduled to return to court over the charges in early April.
