Dierks Bentley seems to be taking a rather unexpected new direction with his brand new single, “Somewhere On A Beach”.
The track gives fans a first glimpse of what to expect from his upcoming album, a definite departure from his previous releases. The all-too-familiar tale of grabbing a ticket to a faraway beach after a bad breakup is revisited in this somewhat disappointing track.
Bentley has traded in his trademark sound for an aesthetic already driven into the ground by Kenny Chesney, with a bro-country spin taken from Florida Georgia Line’s predictable bag of tricks. Although there is an instantly catchy quality to the song that will likely drive concertgoers to wave their beers in the air, there’s a distinct lack of feeling and authenticity that has always been a part of Bentley’s efforts.
Unfortunately, “Somewhere On A Beach” is just the musical equivalent to a watered-down, fruity cocktail – just sweet enough to still be enjoyable, but not very substantial.
