Nashville newcomer Denny Strickland pays tribute to one of his heroes, George Strait, with a stripped-down cover of Strait’s 2001 hit song, “Run”.
The new video is a part of “The Dive Sessions”, a three-part video series showcasing Strickland covering country classics inside of the Nashville dive bar Springwater Supper Club. The rising star has noted Strait as his “first major influence” within music; so the choice to cover “Run” was a simple one.
“Even though Denny’s hits have been up-tempos in a contemporary country vein,” Brian Harstine, video producer and director, said, “he wanted to pay tribute to some of the genre’s legends. George had a big influence on Denny’s career, and I think this song was a perfect choice for him.”
Although Strickland’s current single, “How Far You Wanna Go”, features a distinctly modern country sound, his stripped-down cover shows just how big of an artistic impact Strait has made on the Arkansas-native. Strickland will also release covers of classic tracks by Conway Twitty and Waylon Jennings for his video series, which he plans to release online in the coming weeks.
