Watch Dan + Shay's Intense New Video for 'How Not To'

Dan + Shay have released a sobering new video for their latest single, "How Not To."

The intensely dramatic video, directed by Patrick Tracy, tells the story of two recovering alcoholics, Sophie (Katie Stevens) and Noah (Pierson Fode), who fall in love after meeting at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. But this couple's love story isn't as whimsical and romantic as those portrayed in Dan + Shay's previous music videos, like "From The Ground Up" and "19 You + Me." Instead, this video shows a darker, more mature side of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney.

There are punches thrown, bottles broken and tears shed as the two leading characters struggle with their addictions. Sophie gets fired from her waitressing job for drinking at work. Noah plays in Dan + Shay's band and drunkenly starts fights with his mother and a convenience store clerk. Their paths cross at an AA meeting, when Noah is the only one to laugh at Sophie's joke. "I am one day sober. But it's 7, so I still have, like, five hours. We'll see what happens," she jokes.

The duo teased the video with brief clips on social media leading up to its release on Monday. Smyers and Mooney interacted with fans via a live chat in the video's comment section on YouTube after the premiere.

"So proud of this video," Mooney tweeted after the release.

"How Not To" is the second single from the country duo's sophomore album, Obsessed. The song is climbing the country charts and currently sits at number 30 on the Country Aircheck Mediabase chart. Dan + Shay kick off the second leg of The Obsessed Tour in Rosemont, Ill., on Feb. 9. You can find more information on tour dates via their official website.
