Looking for a change from the big city life of Berlin, Felix Starck and Selima Taibi transformed a 1996 school bus into a loft on wheels and are beginning the adventure of a lifetime.
The couple plans to venture from Alaska all the way to Argentina while exploring many stops along the way. Their dog Rudi is coming along for the ride.
What was once a normal yellow school bus is now nicknamed the Expedition Happiness bus. Starck and Taibi did most of the conversion themselves while finding help on the internet. The living area in the front of the bus consists of a collapsible dining table and a couch that also pulls out into a bed.
Wood flooring from the living room leads right into the kitchen. The couple custom built it themselves to assure they had everything they needed during their trips. You’ll see recycled pellet materials used throughout the kitchen as well as a majority of the bus as it was cost effective.
The bathroom is split into two different sides of the bus. A compost toilet sits on one side and a gorgeous tiled shower on the other. Taibi tiled the shower with the handmade tiles herself. It was a four-day process.
A master bedroom with a queen bed sits at the back of the bus and drawers for clothing pullout from underneath. The emergency hatch is directly above the bed making it convenient to enjoy a moonlit gaze under the stars. Starck is all set on rainy days with his 32” flat screen with Apple TV that anchors near the edge of the bed.
Expedition Happiness seems to have everything it needs for a road trip. The now gray and white colored bus made its way into Alaska in June and Starck, Taibi and Rudi have been having the time of their life ever since. The couple is currently exploring the great state of California.
Starck, Taibi and Rudi keep fans updated while on their route by posting regular vlogs. They are even thinking of selling the bus off to another adventurous spirit once their journey is done. The price would be for far less than the $9500 price tag they paid for it.
