What Country-Rap Song Played During Rick Perry’s Presidential Announcement?

On June 4, former Texas Governor Rick Perry officially announced his plans to run for U.S. president for the second time. While the news in itself was enough to create a lot of conversation on social media, there was something else that grabbed a lot of people’s attention.

During the event, a customized country-rap song written specifically for and about Perry played to those in attendance.

“Rick Perry supporter, let’s protect our border,” the rap interlude proclaims. “To hell with anyone who don’t believe in the USA, Rick Perry all the way.”

So who created this Rick Perry-praising country rap song? Buzzfeed discovered that the song was actually a modified version of Colt Ford‘s “Answer to No One,” featuring J.J. Lawhorn. The original version was released as a track on his 2012 album, Declaration of Independence.

It’s not clear if a full version of the presidential rally song will be released, but it definitely made a big impact during its big debut.

Colt Ford is on tour throughout the summer on select dates of Kenny Chesney‘s Big Revival Tour and Toby Keith‘s Good Times and Pick Up Lines Tour. A full list of tour dates are listed at his official website.
