The surprise collaboration occurred during a benefit performance for the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent earlier this year. Although Swindell has quickly become one of the most popular new artists in mainstream country, he still manages to get a little starstruck around the celebrated sports icon. He seizes the moment during his set to usher over the event’s host for a fun impromptu cover of Coe’s 1975 track, which causes the crowd to erupt in a wave of screams and phone camera flashes.
The clip is featured on episode 11 of Swindell Vision, an online video series that allows fans to see snippets of the Georgia native’s life on and off the stage.
This isn’t the first time that Manning has rocked out with a country superstar. He took the stage with Dierks Bentley for a cover of Johnny Cash‘s “Folsom Prison Blues” at another benefit for his children’s hospital in Indianapolis last summer.
