Cole Swindell pays tribute to his late father in the touching new video for “You Should Be Here”.
The heart-wrenching video is introduced by footage of Swindell on the phone with his father in 2012. He reveals that he’s signed a deal with Warner, which results in an excited response from his proud dad.
Directed by Michael Monaco, the video then switches to present-day and shows Swindell as he travels in his tour bus to his hometown of Glennville, Georgia. Flashbacks to important moments in his career appear as reminders of his father pop up as he makes his way to the local cemetery.
Overcome by emotion, Swindell collapses in tears at the gravesite of his father who passed away just as the country star’s career was taking off in 2013. As he is embraced by his family members, he leaves a photo of he and his father at his stone.
“You Should Be Here,” written by Swindell and Ashley Gorley, is the first single from the Georgia native’s upcoming album. “This is the song I came to Nashville to write,” Swindell explained in a press release. “It’s not like anything I’ve written before. I’m extremely proud this is the first single from my next album. I think anyone can relate to this song for so many different reasons because we’ve all had moments that we wished someone special could have shared with us.”
