Chris Stapleton will receive a special honor from CMT during their upcoming Artists of the Year special.
The acclaimed songwriter will receive the first-ever Breakout Award during the ceremony which will air live from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Dec. 2. The honor comes on the heels of his surprise sweep at the CMA Awards earlier this month.
Stapleton is one of the newest addition to the star-studded event that will celebrate five of the year’s most popular artists in country. Kenny Rogers will also be honored with the second annual Artist of a Lifetime award during the ceremony.
“You go through your life and your career and you try to do the right things and make the right decisions,” Rogers said of the award. “You don’t always do that, but I have been very lucky. I am grateful for it all. This is a great honor and one I highly treasure. Being in with Merle Haggard on anything is always a thrill. To CMT, the fans, and all who made this incredible award possible, I can’t thank you enough.”
Sam Hunt, Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town and Luke Bryan have been selected as this year’s honorees. The special will feature performances by each of these five artists, as well as additional special guests and presenters that will be announced in the coming days.
