Ascending country star Chris Stapleton joined blues guitarists Bonnie Raitt and Gary Clark Jr. for a powerful performance of B.B. King’s signature song, “The Thrill Is Gone”, at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Stapleton lent his soulful vocals and guitar skills to the stellar tribute.

Earlier in the evening, Stapleton won the award for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance.

King, who passed away in May of last year, was a tremendous influence on Stapleton’s music and vocal style.

Stapleton’s performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards, which you can watch in the player below, shows just how much of an impact King’s had on his music.

It’s been a remarkable year for Stapleton. Last May, he released his debut album, Traveller, after sustaining a successful songwriting career in Nashville for over a decade.

Last November, he swept the CMA Awards, where he performed his breakthrough duet with Justin Timberlake.

Following the CMAs, sales of Traveller soared.

Stapleton’s success at the Grammys will help push the trajectory of his rising career even further. You can bet his two Grammy awards and tribute performance in front of a broad national audience will amplify his crossover appeal.

Stapleton will be on tour with Hank Williams, Jr. later this year.
