Chely Wright is preparing to release her first new album in five years this fall.

On Sept. 9, the country singer will release her eighth studio album, I Am The Rain. The record features her recent single “What About Your Heart,” and was completely fan-funded through a Kickstarter campaign.

Wright recruited Emmylou Harris for backing vocals on the emotional track “Pain,” while her cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tomorrow Is a Long Time” also features accompaniment from acclaimed indie folk duo The Milk Carton Kids.

Wright first burst onto the country scene in the 1990s, and climbed the charts with her tracks  “Shut Up and Drive,” “Single White Female” and “Bumper of My SUV.” In 2010, she became one of the first country stars ever to come out as gay, and has since spent much of her time campaigning for LGBT rights.
