Carrie Underwood donned a flowery white gown amid a darkened Bridgestone Arena at the CMA Awards to pay tribute to music industry folks and the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.
Underwood sang the traditional hymn “Softly and Tenderly” as attendees held white lights aloft in remembrance. Images of people who passed away this year flashed up on the screen as she sang.
This year has been a difficult one for country music losses. In August country music legend Glen Campbell passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease.
On Oct. 1, 58 people were killed and hundreds more were injured when a man opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.
The very next day, the world unexpectedly lost Tom Petty.
