Carrie Underwood donated two of her guitars to help save the life of an Oklahoman canine officer from her hometown.
Officer Kevin Branscum said he was totally surprised when he learned that country superstar Carrie Underwood donated two guitars to save the life of his partner, a K-9 officer named Gino. Branscum, of Checotah, Oklahoma, has been struggling to cover Gino’s medical bills.
Branscum has spent nearly $4,000 in medical expenses to treat the dog’s heartworms, and the bills keep piling up. That was until Carrie Underwood found out.
According to the Muskogee Phoenix, a local animal rescuer heard Branscum’s story and sent word to Underwood, who is a native of Checotah. In turn, the country singer donated two autographed guitars to help raise funds for Gino’s medical bills. The dog is privately owned, so the law enforcement department he works for is not allowed to cover his medical bills.
“I’m grateful,” Branscum said. “There’s really no words for it. It’s awesome. Being that she’s from around here makes it even that much more special. I was definitely surprised.”
