Carrie Underwood’s performance at the CMT Awards last night was definitely one of the show’s highlights. Underwood chose to sing her latest hit, “Church Bells.”
“Church Bells” is an ominous yet inspiring song. It focuses on a woman who is abused by her husband who then “mysteriously dies.” The lyrics in the chorus encourage the woman to just listen to the church bells and know everything is going to be okay.
At the show, Underwood was dressed in a classy black, lace jumpsuit and cape. Part way through the song, a full gospel choir joined her, adding to the power of the lyrics and feel of the song. Her powerhouse vocals were on perfect display in this performance. Underwood earned a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience, and we even got a shot of her adoring husband applauding her at the end.
