Three of the biggest hitmakers in country music last year came out as winners during last night’s People’s Choice Awards.
Although they were only represented in three categories — and had no live performances — a few of modern country music’s brightest stars enjoyed some time in the spotlight. Blake Shelton walked away with the Favorite Male Country Artist, beating out fellow nominees Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan. Shelton’s red hot reality singing competition, The Voice, also picked up an award for Favorite Competition TV show for the third straight year.
This year’s award for Favorite Country Group went to Lady Antebellum, who won the category’s top honors for the second straight year. The Augusta, Georgia outfit was nominated alongside The Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line, Zac Brown Band and Little Big Town. The Favorite Female Country Artist category was stacked this year, with Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Cassadee Pope and Reba McEntire losing out to Carrie Underwood.
Underwood has now won the award for two straight years with Taylor Swift gone to Pop. and out of the That’s not to say Swift walked away empty-handed, however, as the New York-based artist won awards for Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Pop Artist.
Luke Bryan rounds out the country music stars who were at least nominated at the ceremony, hoping to add to his trophy room a 2016 Favorite Male Artist award. But unfortunately for Bryan, the award was given to British pop-folk sensation Ed Sheeran.
