Brigham Young punter Jonny Linehan decided to have a little fun in preparation for football season with a remake of Luke Bryan’s recent hit.
Linehan added a creative twist to the song “Huntin’, Fishin’, and Lovin’ Ever Day” as a shout out to football’s special teams — the part of the BYU football team Linehan says “never get any love.” He titled the parody “Puntin’, Kickin’, and Lovin’ Every Day.”
Linehan sports his BYU jersey and a cowboy hat while singing about a day in the life of special teams players.
“So all y’all out there/Giving us that old dirty stare/Just read out tweets/ Check out our cleats/ And you’ll see, that we are athletes/Puntin’, kickin’, and lovin’ every day.”
Check out the full video below. You’ll even see a little bit of Linehan in action on the field.
Linehan dedicated the video in memory of Mike Sadler and Sam Foltz. Both were punters who passed away in a car accident in July. Sadler played for Michigan State and Foltz for Nebraska.
Linehan, an avid Rugby player has been making waves since earlier this year. According to Deseret News, Linehan announced via Twitter that he was leaving Rugby behind for football.
“Rugby will always be my favorite sport. “It is part of who I am (and) part of my identity as a New Zealander,” Linehan said. “However, as I’ve been given the opportunity to play football here, I’ve (prayed) and pondered what decision to make regarding what I should do. With the help of my family, I have decided to focus on football this semester and not play rugby.”
So far the choice seems to be working for him. The parody has garnered over 24,000 views while on Linehan’s personal Twitter page there are almost 200 retweets. Perhaps this video finally gives punters the recognition they’ve been looking for.
