A school bus driver in Texas is being hailed as a hero after saving 15 students from being burned after a wreck.
According to CBS News, Sherry Morgan was behind the wheel of a Navarro County school bus when something went terribly wrong. While traveling down a busy highway, a pickup truck ran into the side of the vehicle. Once she brought the vehicle to stop, her first instinct was to protect her riders.
“My babies… making sure my babies were safe,” said Morgan. “After I realized what happened I could look back and see smoke.”
One by one, Morgan made sure each of the fifteen students made it off the bus safely. One student was shocked by the billowing smoke that began to surround them.
“I had one that was kind of panicking and I just made her focus on me and take deep breaths,” Morgan explained. The brave driver was the last to leave the vehicle, which soon after became engulfed in flames.
When news of the wreck and Morgan’s incredible actions reached school Superintendent Jason Adams, he couldn’t believe what he had heard. “I thought I can’t believe that our kids are safe,” he said.
For Morgan, the selfless and honorable act was just another part of her daily job.
“I don’t think I’m a hero,” Morgan explained. “I was just doing what I was trained to do.”
