Constellation Brands Beer Division has issued a voluntary recall of its Corona Extra 12-packs and 18-packs over concerns that the beverage may be contaminated with small glass particles.
According to a statement on the Corona USA website, the recall affects only one out of every 5,000 bottles or less than one-tenth of one percent of all beers distributed by the company. Still, this marks the second time in two years that the company has issued a recall over concerns about glass particles.
“While the number of potentially impacted bottles is relatively small, we’re initiating this recall as a precaution to ensure the safety of consumers,” the company’s statement read. “We take the safety of our consumers and the integrity of our beer products very seriously and we’re committed to doing all we can, working with our suppliers, to ensure this does not happen again.”
So far, no injuries have been reported in relation to the recall. According to ABC News, the contamination was a result of defective bottles that were bought from a third-party supplier.
Consumers can find instructions on how to determine if their bottles have been affected by the recall at the Corona website or by contacting 866-204-9407 to receive a full refund.
