Blake Shelton took The Voice stage on Nov. 22 with his contestants for a lively group performance. Team Blake chose to sing “The Heart of Rock and Roll” by Huey Lewis and the News. The team’s remaining three contestants are iTunes-chart smashing Sundance Head, Texas native Austin Allsup and successful songwriter Courtney Harrell.
The song Team Blake performed was a single off of Huey Lewis and the News’ 1984 album, Sports. It peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that year.
Watch Team Blake take on the classic hit (complete with saxophone solos) and have a whole lot of fun doing it.
Okay, so it’s not the most technically flawless performance in the world, but that’s typical of these team performances. You have to assume they probably have about 24 hours to work on it since they’re focusing on solos.
Nevertheless, the group had a blast performing together. The good vibes carried on until the end of the show for Team Blake — all three of his contestants made it into the Top 10. Miley Cyrus’ Darby Walker was sent home after squaring off in a battle with fellow teammate Aaron Gibson.
The Top 10 will compete for America’s votes on Nov. 28. The Voice airs Monday and Tuesdays on NBC.
