Blake Shelton performed a brand new song on the Honda Stage at the iHeartRadio Theater on May 18, and it has a lot of fans talking. The song, titled “She’s Got A Way With Words,” is about a rough breakup and features some pretty harsh lyrics.
It should be mentioned that Shelton didn’t actually write the song, but he has stated that the album is a direct reflection of what has happened in his life over the last year (read: his divorce from Miranda Lambert and new relationship with Gwen Stefani).
In an interview with E! News, he spoke of choosing the album title with music executive Shane Tarleton, saying, “I need a title that represents a timeline, like 12 or 13 months of my life, like if somebody took those months and wrote a story about it, that’s what I want the album to represent and we kept saying like, 12 Months and Holy Crap. Finally he was like, ‘What do you mean by that?’ I was just like, ‘I just want to tell the truth about what happened.'”
The title of the track sounds sweet enough, but boy, is it not. The chorus of the song dishes out some low-blow lyrics: “She put the her in hurt / She put the why in try / She put the S.O.B. in sober / She put the hang in hangover / She put the ex in sex / She put the low in blow / She put a big F.U. in my future / Yeah she’s got a way / She’s got a way with words.”
Whether or not the song is really talking about a certain ex of Shelton’s, it certainly fits with the theme of the rest of his album.
“She’s Got A Way With Words” is featured on his latest studio album If I’m Honest, which was released today, May 20. After only 10 hours of it being out, If I’m Honest is already ranked second on the iTunes charts.
