The ever-popular crooner still reigns supreme, and no other country artist is even close to catching up.
Country superstar Blake Shelton is on a hot streak atop the Billboard Country Airplay chart. His latest single, “Lonely Tonight,” just became his 14th consecutive number one. The duet with Ashley Monroe appears on Shelton’s new album, Bringing Back the Sunshine, and it is also his 19th career number one hit.
Every single Shelton has released since his 2009 duet with Trace Adkins, “Hillbilly Bone,” has made it to the top of the charts. Subsequent number one hits include two duets, “Home” and “Boys Round Here,” with his wife Miranda Lambert.
He made history last year by becoming the first country singer to top the Billboard Artist 100 chart. Billboard calculates these numbers using sales, radio airplay, and social media statistics.
Shelton’s buddies Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan are second and third in line to Shelton’s top seat on the Country Airplay chart. However, each artist only has three consecutive hits, so Shelton can hang on to his crown for quite a while.
