The 2016 CMA Awards was jam-packed with country stars (and even a pop queen), but there was one face who was noticeably missing from the crowd. Blake Shelton, an important and prominent fixture in the country music industry, was not in attendance for the award show. Despite rumors about his absence, Shelton gave a solid explanation on social media.
There was a lot of speculation that Shelton not attending the CMAs had something to do with his ex-wife, Miranda Lambert. While that could have been a factor, his reason was much more innocent. According to a tweet he made on Oct. 31, accompanied with photo evidence, the country singer was hunting!
Shelton wasn’t nominated for any awards, but we’re guessing he didn’t feel snubbed. He probably simply wanted to spend his free time between filming The Voice sitting in a tree stand. It’s likely he doesn’t get much of a chance to do that anymore with his busy schedule.
The country singer missed a good show, though! There was a slew of incredible performances — like Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and more paying tribute to Dolly Parton and a touching moment of Randy Travis taking the stage.
