Travel & Leisure Magazine proves that Southern charm rules the world. The popular travel destination magazine ranked Charleston, South Carolina as the “World’s Best City.”
The magazine revealed their annual reader survey on Weds., July 6, and Charleston earned the coveted No. 1 spot.
This recognition marks the first time a U.S. destination has ever earned top honors. Last year Charleston fell short at no. 2 to behind Kyoto, Japan.
According to Post and Courier, Travel & Leisure’s editor Nathan Lump wasn’t surprised at Charleston’s win. “Charleston is a remarkably dynamic place,” said Lump, “so it’s no surprise that it has achieved its highest ranking ever in our survey as this year’s best city in the world.”
Every year Travel and Leisure asks its readers to share travel experiences and rank cities according to specific categories that include landmarks, culture, cuisine, people, shopping and overall offerings. The overall score for Charleston was 91.66.
