Fans of Keith Urban can get a rare look into life in the recording studio in his new documentary short, “The Making Of John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16.”
The seven-minute clip shows Urban in the studio as he entered the studio to record his latest single, which has become his fastest-selling release in over a decade. The video gives insight to the challenges of the recording process, as the performer is seen struggling with where to start in the process.
Once Urban makes a creative breakthrough, the song begins to come together as his team share some lighthearted moments. From describing his biggest challenge while singing to explaining why his background singers were staring at their phones while performing, it’s clear from Urban’s narration that he and his crew had a fun and memorable experience while bringing the song to life. That fun atmosphere and process was something Urban was eager to share with his listeners.
“We couldn’t recall a song-specific documentary short that really gave a feeling for how a song comes together,” Urban said of how the video came about in a statement, according to Country Music Is Love. “We’re usually filming anyway and the evolution of “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” really did happen in the studio, so we thought why not share some of the fun (and creative angst) that we usually have in the studio with our fans!”
An official video for “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” will be released in the coming weeks. Urban will be out on the road through October, including a stop at the Gulf Coast Jam in Panama City Beach, FL on Sept. 6. You can see all of his upcoming tour dates at his official website.
