Investigators are still trying to find out how Craig Morgan’s son drowned in a Tennessee lake earlier this week.
The country singer’s 19-year-old son, Jerry Greer, was reported missing on Sunday after a tubing accident. Rescue teams recovered Greer’s body from the lake on Monday.
According to the Tennessean, Greer had been boating and tubing with friends on Kentucky Lake when he fell into the water and never resurfaced.
Investigators are looking into what exactly caused Greer’s death. His friends reported to authorities that he was wearing a life jacket when he fell into the water. However, a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency rep told People that the vest was not “Coast Guard approved.”
“He was legal because of what he was doing and the operator had proper life jackets on board,” the representative explained. “But the jacket itself was one that many skiers and wave board users wear. As an agency, we prefer jackets that have the Coast Guard approval.”
The teen had recently graduated from Dickson County High School and was set to play football this fall at Marshall University.
Since the news broke, fellow country artists and friends of Morgan have shared their love and support on Twitter.
We send our deepest condolences to Craig Morgan and all of Jerry Greer’s friends and family.
