Artist You Should Know: Drake White

Essential Broadcast Media/ David McClister

Hailing from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains comes Drake White, the Alabama native with soul.

Exuding the passion of legendary soul artists such as Otis Redding, the Dot Records artist hit the ground running with his first two singles “The Simple Life” and “It Feels Good.” Opening for top-notch artists such as Eric Church, Zac Brown Band and a staple at industry showcases, White is finding himself in high-demand.

His rural upbringing in Hokes Bluff, Ala. instilled a sense of humility and seriousness not often found in rising artists. White began by singing in church and writing songs at age 14. He knew that he had to push himself apart from the crowd if he wanted to make it. Infusing the influences of country, rock, funk and blues, White has created his own unique styling in both music and attire.

In conjunction with his long-time and close-knit band The Big Fire, White has established a maturity to his lyrics and vocals — an “old soul,” if you will.

After a short signing with Universal Music Group, White found a home with industry heavyweight Scott Borchetta, the head of the Big Machine Label Group.

But it’s not just his music that has captivated industry personnel and fans; White possesses a down-home, charismatic demeanor that is attracting attention (and it doesn’t hurt that he’s incredibly easy on the eyes). He’s humorous, engaging, and in a sense, attainable. And soon his brand will overflow music. His love for the outdoors as secured him a position as a team member for Salt Life, the incredibly popular fishing and apparel brand, bringing his relatable flavor to the masses.

While his latest single “Livin’ the Dream” is securing him positions on every “One to Watch” list, White is taking his diverse sound and hitting the road, performing at a slew of top-tier music festivals this upcoming year – even spreading his sound abroad.

White will be one of the American performers at the sold out CMC Rocks QLD Country Festival in Queensland, Australia. He will also join Zac Brown Band as support on their upcoming Black Out the Sun Tour
