Christmas came a little earlier than usual this year for Amy Schumer’s family. The comedian bought back her family’s farm and surprised her father, Gordon, with the great news.
Schumer took a screenshot of her sharing the incredible news with her father over FaceTime. She posted the interaction on her Instagram with the caption, “Today I bought my father’s farm back.”
Schumer’s family lost the farm when she was a child. Her father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and the family went bankrupt shortly thereafter. Schumer also posted an adorable video on her Instagram of her running through a cornfield.
“Video from the farm when I was running away in the cornfield and my dad was taunting me because I wanted him to come with me,” Schumer captioned. “We lost the farm when we lost everything else. But today I got to buy it back for him.”
Schumer has been very candid in the past about her father’s struggle with multiple sclerosis and the effect it had on her. She touched on the impact of MS in her recent autobiography, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo.
“Life got less and less comfortable for us after my parents lost all their money,” she wrote. “We began moving into smaller and smaller homes until it felt like we were sleeping in a pile…” For her hit film Trainwreck, Schumer even made her character’s father suffer from the ailment.
And now, Schumer gets to pay it forward in a big way, with a Christmas miracle of her own.
