Watch Willie Nelson's Son Lukas Nail 'Always on My Mind'

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to Willie Nelson and his son Lukas Nelson. Just check out this performance of "Always On My Mind" from a few years back for proof of that.

Lukas, with Red Young and Friends, sang the song in an intimate setting aboard the 19th Sandy Beaches Cruise. There, during a late night jam, the talented performers ran through a litany of classics.

Nelson, who bears a pretty striking resemblance to his father, offers up "Always On My Mind" and the young singer totally nails it.

Of course, Lukas may be employing a hint of imitation and flattery, but his voice sounds so much like a young Willie's, too. From the moment the piano player strikes up a chord, the connection is palpable.

The Sandy Beach Cruise features a gaggle of country and Americana artists every year. Texas songwriter Delbert McClinton started the whole thing back in 1995. It's one of the original "music cruises" out there.

For his part, Lukas Nelson doesn't really hang off the coattails of his famous father. Sure, it helps. But he actually started a rock band in California called Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real (or just Promise Of The Real) back in 2008.

Similar to dad Willie, Lukas never made it all the way through college. Instead, he dropped out of Loyola Marymount University to do music full time.

The band released their debut record in 2010 and collaborated with Neil Young in 2015. Their most recent album Something Real came out in March 2016.

Meanwhile, "Always On My Mind" is one of the most iconic songs ever. Brenda Lee recorded the original version in 1972. Elvis Presley also had a hit with his version in 1979, and Willie Nelson won a Grammy with his in 1982. Loretta Lynn also released a version of the song last year.
