Alton Brown Uses Taste Test to Crown Nashville’s Hot Chicken Champion

There are few things more widely beloved in Nashville than hot chicken. It’s been a city staple for years, but just recently began to get national exposure, thanks to chains like KFC who are trying to recreate the real thing.

Any true Nashvillian knows that you can only find truly great hot chicken within the city limits, but there is still a battle between local eateries to claim the title of “best hot chicken.” Renowned food critic and television personality Alton Brown recently made the trek to Tennessee to settle the debate for good.

In order to determine Nashville’s true hot chicken champion, Brown decided to do a blind taste test of two platters from Prince’s and Hattie B’s. This is not a challenge for the weak of heart (or stomach), and Brown learned it the hard way.

After stuffing his face full of blistering hot chicken, he selected Hattie B’s as the winner. It’s a surprising choice to many locals, as Hattie B’s has only been around since 2012 while Prince’s has been shelling out delicious chicken since 1945.

Although Brown may think he’s closed the debate on this topic, it’s one that Nashville residents will be bickering over for years to come.
