In the letter, Jones asked Jackson to join him for his final show, which was scheduled for Nov. 22, 2013. Sadly, Jones passed away April 26, six months before the two planned to reunite onstage. It’s obvious from the letter the two had a very close and special relationship that had blossomed over the last 25 years as Jackson became a successful country music star.
“You have been a true friend and I love you for that,” Jones wrote. “All these years of you and Denise spending time with Nancy and I is so much appreciated. Thanks for always being there for me.”
He finished the letter with “Keep it Country!”, a slogan Jones used in every one he sent to Jackson. If Jones were here today, he would definitely be a fan of Jackson’s latest releases, which have stayed true to the artist’s classic country sound.
Alan Jackson’s new album, Angels and Alcohol was released July 17. He’s currently wrapping up his Keepin’ It Country Tour, a musical celebration of his work over the past 25 years. A full list of tour dates is available at his official website.
