Instead of selling their goat farm, this couple opted to try something a little more unorthodox.
If you’ve secretly had dreams of owning your own goat farm, you might want to brush up on your writing skills.
A couple in Elkmont, Alabama are giving away their 30-acre farm with a house and 85 goats to whoever submits the best essay. Owners Leslie and Paul Spell are charging a $150 submission fee and hope to get 2,500 entries in total. If they reach that number, they would be able to raise enough money to pay off their mortgage and to give an additional $20,000 to the contest winner.
The Spells are also offering up all of their equipment and knowledge on making goat cheese if the winner is interested in learning about the process. They say they decided to try out the contest when they discovered that most interested buyers could not actually afford to buy the farm.
“Not to say they won’t have struggles or stuff to figure out,” Leslie Spell told WAAY-TV, “But they are going to start with a product that has a following.”
If you want to try and write your way into becoming a goat farm owner, you can visit their website for more details on how to enter the contest.
