Elderly Man Earns $400K from Recycling, Donates All of It to Charity

A viral Facebook post highlighting an elderly man's selfless efforts to help a local charity has gone viral for all the right reasons.

According to ABC News, 86-year-old Johnny Jennings of Ringgold, Ga. started collecting cans and bottles to recycle over 30 years ago. He picked up the hobby as a way of getting to spend more quality time with his only son, Brent. The Jennings did it so often that he was able to save up the down payment for his first house just from his recycling money.

But Jennings isn't doing it all for himself. Since his son grew up and moved out, he's been collecting the recycling from churches and local organizations each week. All of the money he collects from the recycling goes directly to Georgia Baptist Children's Homes & Family Ministries. Over the years, he's donated over $400,000 to help families and children in need.

Although Jennings is a humble man, he has suddenly become a viral sensation. Local resident Shay Drennan-Love recently shared this post on Facebook about his incredible gifts.

The post has now been shared over 46,000 times. So far, Jennings himself hasn't commented on his heartwarming efforts. Instead, his family says he'd just like to quietly continue collecting those bottles and cans for a good cause.
