As the great American journalist John Gunther once said, “If a man’s from Texas, he’ll tell you. If not, why embarrass him by asking?” Mr. Gunther was right about that, because being from Texas is awesome. Just ask any Texan. We love talking about the great state of Texas, and how wonderful it is to live here, and how proud we are to be native Texans. Every state in this nation is pretty awesome, but just for fun, read on to see the eight ways being from Texas is like being famous.
Our state is financially well off.
Texas has an incredible state economy. The absence of a state income tax and many other tax perks have enticed large corporate employers to relocate to the Lone Star State. Not only are jobs plentiful and taxes low, real estate and cost of living are also relatively affordable compared to other states.
We are really good looking.
No, seriously. According to CNN a survey placed Austin, Texas in the top 10 cities in the nation that are home to attractive people.
We know a lot of people in the entertainment industry
There are lots of Texan celebrities these days, including Matthew McConaughey, Selena Gomez, Richard Linklater and Miranda Lambert, just to name a few.
We have friends in high places
Texas has put three United States Presidents into the White House: Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and George W. Bush, and could potentially have a fourth, if Ted Cruz wins the Republican nomination.
People everywhere know about Texas
People from all over the United States can pick Texas out on the map. Even if they’re not American, people know about Texas. All over the world, traveling Texans tend to identify as Texan rather than American, because, well, we get treated like celebrities when we do.
People can’t stop talking about what we’re doing
Whether our governor is running for president because God told him to or Jimmy Kimmel is singing love songs to our capital city, Texas is pretty much constantly in the news for one thing or another.
We have imitators
Texas is so popular that Texas-themed restaurants and businesses have popped up worldwide, but there’s only one original.
We have haters
It doesn’t matter how awesome Texas is, there are people who you couldn’t pay enough to live here. We cry about it into our pillows every night.
