Nashville may be primarily known for its country music scene, but this Southern city knows a thing or two about how to make a great burger.
While there are dozens of excellent burger joints in Nashville, there are a few options you won’t want to miss. From upscale, hip burger palaces to old-fashioned burger joints in charming parts of town, here are five of the best places to visit if you’re hankering for a hamburger.
5. Burger Up
This trendy hamburger joint is a popular destination in the 12 South neighborhood. They also have a second location in Cool Springs. Burger Up offers a wide selection of upscale hamburgers ranging from lamb burgers to bison burgers. The Woodstock—a hamburger patty topped with bacon, white cheddar cheese, and Jack Daniels maple ketchup—is my personal favorite. Order the sweet Vidalia onion ring tower as a side, or try their tasty truffle fries. Burger Up was the first Nashville burger joint I ever tried, and it’s still one of my favorites.
I discovered Elliston Place Soda Shop while looking for an old-fashioned diner and quickly fell in love with their burgers. If you’re looking for a historic place with plenty of charm and delicious hamburgers, Elliston Place Soda Shop is the go-to spot. This quaint shop has been serving some of the best burgers, fries, and milkshakes in town since 1939. Slide into one of the booths or perch on a silver and red barstool by the counter and order a traditional hamburger or cheeseburger. Served with crispy crinkle-cut fries, these are some tasty burgers you won’t want to miss out on.
My sister and I stumbled into Paradise Park Trailer Resort one frigid winter evening as we were looking for a place to eat on Broadway. Per the waitress’s recommendation, we ordered bacon cheeseburgers with sides of tater tots, and we weren’t disappointed. Paradise Park Trailer Resort offers hamburgers, veggie burgers, cheeseburgers, chili cheeseburgers, and their specialty, the Paradise Patty Melt, which is topped with Swiss cheese and caramelized onions.
2. The Pharmacy
This beer garden and burger joint is the perfect place to go for burgers, brats, or homemade soda. Voted Nashville’s Best Burger place in both 2013 and 2014, The Pharmacy offers a wide array of tasty burgers, from the vegetarian Falafel burger to the fish burger. The Pharmacy has a picturesque outdoor garden that’s the perfect place to dine during warm weather, so it provides an ideal atmosphere for first dates or laid-back gatherings. Be sure to try one of the homemade sodas as well.
Burger Republic has a full roster of exceptional hamburgers. From the Hawaiian burger to the jalapeno popper burger, Burger Republic has a wide array of must-try burgers. Their Tennessee burger, which is topped with Jack Daniels honey glaze, smoked ketchup, bacon, and crispy onions, won first place in last year’s Nashville Burger Brawl. The locally owned burger joint is also famous for their tater tots and spiked milkshakes.
