It’s April 20, a day that many smokers lovingly refer to as 420. Over the years, country music’s relationship with marijuana has shifted. The same substance that Merle Haggard dissed in “Okie From Muskogee” became a familiar theme in tracks from his later career.

Country’s latest generation of artists have also embraced it in their lyrics, too. From Kacey Musgraves’ mega-hit “Follow Your Arrow” to Brothers Osborne’s “Greener Pastures,” weed culture has found its way into the mainstream.
