This Texas realtor is giving his home away to anyone who can supply an impressive essay.
Realtor Michael Wachs is taking a different route when it comes to selling his house.
His Houston, Texas home is from the 1920’s, is in a great location, and supplies over 1,000 square feet of living space. It’s a great family-friendly space that could easily attract some buyers on the open market, but Wachs isn’t putting it on the open market. Instead, he’s opted to create an essay contest with a $150 entry fee. Whoever can supply the best essay will win the home, and will only have to pay to enter and all associated closing costs.
According to ABC 13, overwhelming interest in the contest crashed Wachs’ official website for the project within hours of it being launched. From the applications received so far, he says he thinks choosing a winner will be very difficult.
Wachs will need at least 3,000 applications by mid-June to gain the same funds as the home’s market value, which is estimated to be near $400,000. If he doesn’t mean the application goal, Wachs plans to list the home through a traditional market listing.
