Choosing a baby’s name is a big responsibility, and some country artists have picked one-of-a-kind names for their little ones.
With Carrie Underwood announcing the birth of her first child, Isaiah Michael, earlier this week, it’s safe to say we have babies on the brain. Here are 10 of the most unique baby names country artists have given their children in recent years.
Before Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had baby North around, Randy Houser and his wife, Jessa, had cornered the market on directionally themed baby names. Their son was born in March 2013, and Jessa called the baby their “very own little Wild West” when she announced his birth on Twitter.
Brad Paisley and his wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, christened their oldest son William Huckleberry Paisley when he arrived in 2007. Inspired by Mark Twain’s classic literary character, the couple calls him Huck, and Paisley wrote his sweet single “Anything Like Me” about finding out his son was on the way. The two are also proud parents of Jasper Warren Paisley, born in 2009.
Jake Owen certainly has a lot to be thankful for—he and his wife, Lacey, welcomed their daughter on Thanksgiving Day in 2012. After realizing that their original name, Pearl Olive Owen, would give the little girl some unfortunate initials, the Owens decided to officially name the baby Olive Pearl and call her by her middle name.
Josh Turner and his wife, Jennifer, have a very busy household—eight-year-old Hampton is their oldest of four sons! The Turner family also includes five-year-old Colby, three-year-old Crawford (who they call by his middle name, Marion) and four-month-old Samuel.
Rascal Flatts‘ Joe Don Rooney and his wife, Tiffany Fallon, chose the musical moniker Jagger Donovan Rooney for their oldest son when he was born in 2008. Since then, the couple has also added two little girls to their family: Raquel Blue (called “Rocky”) and Devon Olivia.
5. River Rose
Other than her Grammy-nominated duet with Jason Aldean, “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” Clarkson may not be a country artist, but daughter River Rose has a country pedigree to rival the best of them: Her grandma is Reba McEntire. Clarkson and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, welcomed their little girl in July 2014.
Eli Young Band‘s frontman, Mike Eli, and his wife, Kacey, chose this gender-neutral name for their little girl when she was born in 2012. To avoid any confusion, the couple gave their daughter a decidedly feminine middle name: Kline Olivia.
Jennifer Nettles and her husband, entrepreneur Justin Miller, welcomed their son in December 2012, though they have their fair share of nicknames for the little guy. Nettles told Taste of Country that they started shortening his name to “Mags,” which has since morphed into “Magaroni and Cheese,” “Magaroni Noodle” or even just “Noodle.”
Lady Antebellum‘s female vocalist, Hillary Scott, christened her daughter with this pretty name when she was born in July 2013. Pronounced “EYES-lee,” the name is actually a German surname and is the maiden name of Scott’s mother-in-law.
It’s no surprise that one of country’s most prominent tough guys would give his son an equally tough name. Eric Church and his wife, Katherine, named their newborn son Tennessee Hawkins when he was born in February 2015, and they plan to call him Hawk. Hawk’s three-year-old brother sports a manly moniker of his own: Boone McCoy Church.
